An image editor makes it possible to adjust or correct certain aspects of a picture. Most of them offer smart tools for fast and easy editing, but they are usually expensive. FireAlpaca offers similar tools, but it is easier to use and it's also free. Although it is not as vast as other image processors (for example, Adobe Photoshop), you can still find enough features to give your pictures a better look.

FireAlpaca is free and it is available for both Mac and Windows platforms. Anyone who has installed software before should not have any problems with this one. The installation package is not large and the setup process involves clicking a few Next buttons.

The interface's design is similar to other image editors. Images can be loaded and edited on the central area, brushes, and other tools can be found on the left side, and you can set a different zoom level or create and manage layers on the right side. Many options in the top menus can be found on the toolbar and other areas.

When selecting a tool which requires clicking and dragging over the image, for example, a brush, you can select the color, set its size, hardness or select a different type of brush in separate boxes, on the left side of the window. These boxes can be moved, closed or restored like normal windows, so you can have more space in the main editing area.

The program will display different options on the toolbar, depending on the selected tool. If you select a fill tool, you will find a slider for setting the opacity level and other options. If you need to draw a straight line with the brush tool, you can select one of the snap tools on the toolbar, which will place different types of grids over the image. While the grid is activated, you may click and drag in any direction and the line will be drawn perfectly straight, parallel with the grid's lines. The grid can also be used with other tools, like the eraser or the selection tool.

The tools which can be found only in the top menus will help you transform a selection, adjust hue, saturation and brightness levels, add a Gaussian blur or mosaic effect and more. You may create separate layers and arrange them in any order, move their contents separately, merge or duplicate them.

Pros

FireAlpaca is free and it features the same kind of tools you would find in advanced image processors. They are well organized on the interface and using them is not difficult.

Cons

There are not too many preset effects to apply. With FireAlpaca's simplicity and smart features, even novice users can improve their pictures. It is an excellent substitute for complicated and expensive image editors.
